Thirty patients were treated with cefotetan in a non-comparative trial of hospitalized patients. Eleven had intrapelvic infections; 8, intrauterine infections; 4, pelvic abscesses; 4, postoperative wound infections; and 3, urinary tract infections. Patients were given 2~4 gram of cefotetan per day in divided doses every 6 to 12 hours for 3~20 days. Clinical responses were excellent in 17 cases, good in 11 cases and poor in 2 cases with efficacy of 93%. Cefotetan was well tolerated except 1 case of nausea and 2 cases of super infection. In vitro sensitivity test showed broad antimicrobial activity in Gram positive microbes and especially Gram negative rods with 84% eradication rate of cultured microorganisms. It was concluded that cefotetan was effective in the treatment of various types of pelvic infections and produced few adverse reactions.
